Experience Less Pain and Fewer Risks through Single Site Surgery

All About Women Obstetrics and Gynecology is proud to have been a part of an amazing advancement in surgical procedures. Our very own Dr. Anthony Agrios, founder and senior provider of our Gainesville, Florida practice, was the first surgeon to perform robotic hysterectomy surgery at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Anyone that has had surgery knows that there can be intense pain following any procedure, the potential for multiple complications, and issues with scarring. With the aid of the ground-breaking da Vinci robotic system though, surgeons are able to reduce many of these problems. With the incision only having to be the size of a quarter, the scarring is virtually obsolete.

Through this small incision, surgeons are able to control instruments very precisely with the da Vinci robot.

Kimberly Powell, is one patient who took advantage of this new technique. She said the pain following the surgery was minimal and she was back to work from a hysterectomy in two weeks. That is amazing!!!

Years ago, it could take months to recover from a hysterectomy.

Doctors describe how pain from surgery doesn’t typically stem from the actual organ that is being worked on, but rather the muscle and tissues surrounding it. Therefore, minimizing incisions or irritation to these tissues will in turn minimize pain the patient will experience.

Currently, only hysterectomy and gallbladder surgeries are being performed using the da Vinci single-incision system. However, kidney and bladder surgeries are being considered as well says explains Dr. Agrios in his interview on Gainesville’s TV 20.

Dr. Agrios believes the da Vinci platform is a wonderful breakthrough and is the future in surgical techniques. It is a much less invasive surgery and therefore fewer complications for the patient.

“Single–Site instruments used with the da Vinci platform are the next step in the evolution of surgical technologies,” Dr. Agrios says. “We are truly excited to be a leader here in Gainesville in the robotic surgical treatment for tomorrow.”
