Comforting Words For Mothers Who Have Miscarried

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg announced on his Facebook page in 2015 that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, were expecting their first child together. In that same post he revealed that along the way they had suffered three miscarriages.

He wrote:

You feel so hopeful when you learn you’re going to have a child. You start imagining who they’ll become and dreaming of hopes for their future. You start making plans, and then they’re gone. It’s a lonely experience. Most people don’t discuss miscarriages because you worry your problems will distance you or reflect upon you—as if you’re defective or did something to cause this. So you struggle on your own.

A miscarriage is a heartbreaking experience for expecting parents. You go through a state of shock and then grief for the unborn baby that you’ve lost. You may feel hopeless, as if things will never be the same again. Since the topic is not often talked about, you may also feel alone in your loss.

During a time of loss, it can be helpful to turn to words for inspiration and emotional support.
