Unfortunately it is that wonderful time of year when flu, colds and other illnesses occur at a high rate. According to the CDC, late December indicated a spike of the flu in the United States. Florida is among one of the most affected states. Since the beginning of the flu season, 21 children, including 3 right here in Florida, have lost their lives to the flu. Although we can’t stop all germs, there are precautions that we can take to do our best to ward off the nasty beasts!
- Flu Vaccine – Many medical professionals agree that getting the flu shot can help keep the flu away but not 100 percent. It can help with how long the flu stays around and the severity of it.
- Hygiene – It is so important to wash your hands often throughout the day. Not only washing them but doing so properly! We touch so many doorknobs and handrails throughout the day that are full of germs.
- Hands away! – It is vital to not bite your nails, chew on your fingers or put your fingers near your nose, mouth or eyes. This is where all germs seem to travel through to get to our bodies and can cause upper respiratory infections.
- Wipe down everything! – We had family over after Christmas and they had been sick and I can honestly tell you as soon as they left, I lysoled my entire house!
- Drink plenty of water and eat good foods. – The more water intake and good quality foods you have the better. It keeps your body in the best possible shape to help keep those germs away. Eating bad foods and drinking caffeine all the time is not good for your immunities.
- Exercise is essential! – This absolutely helps with our immunity. The more we are in shape also the better we can feel and hopefully get over the illness quicker.
Whether you choose to take the flu shot or not, at least do all these other suggestions. Limiting germs coming near you is the key! Too bad we can’t seem germ.
