Ready to Get Pregnant? Find Out the Best Time to Try

October 30, 2017 By Liliana Zapien

best time to get pregnantDo you know when your most fertile time of the month is?

Most women are misinformed about ovulation, believing that you should wait to have sex on the day of ovulation for the best chance of getting pregnant.

The problem is, however, you don’t always know when you’re ovulating, so you may miss your most fertile day of the month.

When Do I Have The Best Chance of Getting Pregnant?

It’s best to have sex regularly for 3-5 days before you believe you’re going to ovulate since you could be a few days off in calculating your ovulation. If you’re off by just one day in your calculations, you may miss your opportunity.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine examined when women conceive and found that no women in their study conceived the day after ovulation.

Your egg is only able to be fertilized for about 12-24 hours after you ovulate. A sperm can live for 24-72 hours. Therefore, if you have sex on the days leading up to your calculated day of ovulation, you increase your chances of getting pregnant because the sperm can live inside of you for longer than your egg.

How Can I Tell If I Am Ovulating?

Determining when you are ovulating is extremely tricky. The best way to calculate your ovulation is to keep a calendar of when you get your period each month. Women generally ovulate two weeks before they expect their next period.

Once you know how many days your cycle is, then you can count back two weeks to find the best estimate of when you are ovulating.

Of course, every woman is different. This is why it’s recommended that you have sex on the days leading up to when your estimated ovulation so you don’t miss your best chance.
