All About Women is a sponsor for the first annual Women’s Wellness 5K hosted by the North Central Florida Midwives (NCFM) Chapter of the American College of Nurse Midwives. The 5K Walk/Run will be November 16th, in the beautiful San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park in Alachua, Florida.
Women of all fitness levels can enjoy running or walking through one of Florida’s last remaining mature forests, benefiting both their wellness and the wellness of underserved women. That’s because NCFM will donate 100% of the race’s profits this year to a Gainesville clinic that aims to prevent, screen for, and treat cervical cancer for underserved women in the Northern Florida area.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports cervical cancer is highly preventable with just screening tests and vaccination against HPV, which is the main cause of cervical cancer. Screening tests for cervical cancer include the Pap smear and HPV screening. If caught early, cervical cancer is highly treatable. All women between the ages of 21 and 65 should be screened for HPV at their annual well woman exam according to the recommendations of their well woman care provider.
Register online for the Wellness Walk/Run through Friday, November 15th. The registration fee is $25 per person online, including a free t-shirt, or $30 for race-day registration. The race begins on Saturday, November 16th at 9 am. San Felasco is just a short drive from downtown Gainesville, and less than an hour from Lake City.
All About Women is proud to help support the first annual Women’s Wellness Run and is concerned about every woman’s wellness. If you haven’t had your Pap smear or HPV test lately, contact our compassionate staff today to schedule a well woman exam in our Lake City or Gainesville office.
