In case you hadn’t heard, men and women around the world celebrated International Women’s Day on March 8th by taking time to support continued action of the advancement women everywhere. This year’s theme is Make It Happen.
Many times, it’s easy for women of all ages to neglect their own health in the hectic ins-and-outs of daily life. Life is busy and sometimes it’s easier to skip the walk around the neighborhood and instead grab fast food on the way home. But what better time than now to make a change and Make Health Happen in your life?
Your kids, family, co-workers, and even people you may not know depend on you to keep being the strong healthy woman that you are, which is why should start taking some basic proactive measures in staying healthy if you haven’t already.
Take Care of Yourself
When life gets hectic, it seems that exercise and healthy eating are the first things to go. But even in the busy times of life, it’s important to keep self-care a priority. Make sure to get at least 20 minutes of exercise a few times a week to build strong bones and muscles. Maintain a balanced diet with as many fruits and vegetables as possible. Simple things like diet and exercise, even good sleeping habits, are a daily way of being proactive about your health.
Self-Examinations
While maybe not the first thing to come to mind, self-examinations are a great way to stay proactive about your health. Breast and mole self-examinations are recommended monthly. It only takes a few minutes out of your day, and there are step-by-step guides to show you what to look for as you examine yourself. Being aware of your body is important for early detection, but it is also a big part of knowing yourself and being a healthier woman.
Visit Your Doctor Regularly
Even if your body is feeling great, don’t forget regular check-ups with your gynecologist at least once a year, whether you’re not even close to having children or you’re going through menopause. Regular visits to your dentist, dermatologist, and general practitioner are also vital to overall health.
