How to Safely Gain Weight During Your Pregnancy

It’s that wonderful time of your life that many may have been dreaming about for years…becoming a mommy!  Taking care of yourself, eating properly and actually gaining weight are all a part of the process.  In a day in age where women are constantly worried about becoming fat, this is the time of your life where some healthy weight gain is a great thing!

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is always important but especially when your body is housing that precious little one!  Fruits and vegetables are essential for your baby to get the nutrients he or she needs in order to grow at a healthy rate. An average woman generally needs about 2,000 calories a day.  WebMD says that “eating for two” is not necessary but to make sure you carefully achieve an extra 300 calories a day.

You should always consult your health care provider about how much weight is acceptable for you to gain during your pregnancy.  However, a good rule of thumb is an average of a 25 to 35 pound weight gain provided you were at a good weight before becoming pregnant.

Gain slowly by not gorging yourself!  Eating nutritious types of food that contain calcium, iron, protein and folate are a priority.  Here is an excellent article to read to help guide you to proper healthy eating during pregnancy.

Everyone should have a doctor that they can trust and seek advice during their pregnancy.  If you are in need of a trustworthy physician, please call our Gainesville or Lake City office today to schedule an appointment.  For more detailed information about healthy weight gain, read this article in our knowledge center.
